Federico Marchetti

“The Geek of Chic” – The New Yorker, 2012

Federico Marchetti graduated in economics and commerce from Milan’s Luigi Bocconi University and obtained an MBA from Columbia University.
Marchetti began his professional career in 1994 as an Investment Banking Analyst, first in London and then in Milan. In 1999, he worked with Bain & Co. as a consultant.

In 1999 Federico Marchetti invented YOOX, the perfect venture to unite his entrepreneurial spirit with his revolutionary eye for the future of fashion.
In 2000, he founded YOOX S.p.A. and, since then, has served as the Company’s Chief Executive Officer.

In 2012, Federico Marchetti was awarded the prestigious Leonardo Award for Innovation by Italian President Giorgio Napolitano in recognition of the pioneering spirit of YOOX Group. In 2014, Federico Marchetti has been nominated Alumnus of the Year by Bocconi University for his unique entrepreneurial skills and innovative thinking.

Described by The New York Times as the man who put fashion on the net, in 2015 Federico led the merger between THE NET-A-PORTER GROUP and YOOX Group to become Chief Executive Officer of YOOX NET-A-PORTER GROUP – the world’s leading online luxury retailer.
The merger brought together two highly complementary businesses covering all key geographical luxury markets and customer segments.

The Group registered 2015 net revenues of €1.7 billion, and delivers to more than 180 countries around the world. Last year, Vanity Fair magazine named Federico as one of “The Disruptors” in its New Establishment List.

Dubbed “The Geek of Chic” by The New Yorker, in 2016 he co-founded the Center for Digital Business Education with the support of YNAP and Bologna Business School. It is the first center of excellence in Europe dedicated entirely to the digital world. Several pioneering companies in the digital sector have joined this project that offers a one-of-a-kind education in the online field, and is open to both graduates and professionals. Fittingly, WIRED included him in their “100 most influential people” list.
